“Sadhana is everything you do.”
That’s it. That is the one line I could use to sum it all up.
This is what everything points to, is it not?
“Sadhana is everything you do.”
EVERYTHING YOU DO is Sadhana.
Washing the dishes is Sadhana.
Brushing your teeth is Sadhana.
Eating & drinking are Sadhana.
Having sex, cooking a meal, asana practice, meditation, reading, writing, painting, singing, working, loving.
The hour and a half you spend on your mat each day is Sadhana.
And so are the remaining 22.5 hours.
It is offering your absolute Presence to the exact moment you are in. When you’re talking, when you’re driving, when you’re fucking, when you’re thinking…those moments…those are your real practice.
It’s where you can challenge yourself to grow. Challenge yourself to live with intention in every moment. Challenge yourself to live with grace in every moment. Challenge yourself to see things as they are, your self very much included, and not how you wish them to be.
So what do you gain from these daily rituals of practice? You gain discipline. You gain attention. You gain perspective. You gain clarity. You gain power.
Power over yourself, your mind, your consciousness = power over your life.
And not the power to control everything happening in your life, but the power of choosing your reaction to anything happening in & around you.
To show up. To do your best. To believe in yourself. To breathe. To love. To LIVE. That’s all we are really here to do.
To LIVE. To be present to your life. To experience this completely authentic life differently than any other being on this planet. In this universe. Life is infinite and this is but one experience of endless ones.
Look at your life right now.
Actually take a look around.
YOU intended all of this into your reality. YOU intended this to be the life you are living right now and in every moment.
What you perceive around you; what goes on in your head; what happens in your heart; what food you eat & how you grow it, cook it, eat it; how you show up to every Now; that is what determines your life.
Are you happy? Are you anxious? Are you angry? Are you lonely? Are you scared? Are you skeptical? Are you grateful?
Whatever you are feeling and expressing is never good or bad, it just is.
It’s okay that I showed up grumpy to 6am yoga today. It’s okay that I was still grumpy when I left. It’s okay that it took me a 30 minute walk in the snow and a 45 minute bath at 11am to get to feeling good again. It’s okay that this is the first time I have really written in weeks. It’s okay that I have been eating too much, not biking enough, feeling lonely and scattered and indecisive at times. It’s okay because this the best I can do right now. And my best is getting better every single day.
So whatever it is you are feeling right now – it’s okay.
Whatever it is you are thinking right now – it’s okay.
Whatever it is you are doing right now – it’s okay.
It is what it is for the moment and surely it will soon change.
And you become better and better by choosing to show up with intention at every moment. Put your fucking phone down and stop for one minute to just breathe. To feel your heartbeat. To feel the life inside of you.
Feel your heart expand as it pumps life through your entire body. Feel your heart contract as it pulls that life back to renew it. Then notice how your entire body – every organ, every cell, everything – is beating to that same rhythm. And not just your physical body. Feel your energetic body radiating in and out, in and out. You are constantly emitting vibration into the world around and within you.
You are constantly choosing what kind & what quality of vibrations to allow into the world. What emotion do you feel right now and what does that vibration feel like to you and those around you?
Our senses are far more keen than we give them credit for. When we offer our presence to our Sadhana, to everything we do, life is better. The sky is brighter, the food tastes richer, sweeter, more satisfying and fulfilling, life itself is more beautiful.
Give it a try and find out for yourself.
“I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. How you decorate your home. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel. Life is art.” -David Deida
Everything you do is Sadhana.
